Application Support Engineer

Responsibilities

• ✓Monitor live application dashboards and alerts to catch failures before they affect end users or business operations
• ✓Investigate recurring incidents by digging through logs, error traces and system metrics to find the real root cause
• ✓Join problem-solving discussions with developers, infrastructure teams and business stakeholders to unblock stuck or escalated tickets
• ✓Document fixes, workarounds and lessons learned so the wider support team can resolve similar issues faster next time
• ✓Write and maintain small scripts that automate repetitive checks, restarts or health-check routines across the support pipeline
• ✓Track incident patterns over time and flag recurring problems that need a permanent fix rather than a workaround
• ✓Keep shift-handover notes clear and detailed enough for the next engineer to pick up an issue instantly
• ✓Suggest improvements to runbooks, monitoring thresholds and support tooling based on what actually breaks in production

Who You Are

• ✓Have 0 to 2 years of hands-on exposure to site reliability engineering, IT support or application monitoring work
• ✓Have completed 15 years of full-time education, matching the qualification this role and most entry-level tracks require
• ✓Understand system monitoring and incident management basics well enough to triage an alert without heavy hand-holding
• ✓Be comfortable writing simple scripts in a language like Python or shell to automate small support tasks
• ✓Know how to read application logs and system metrics to work out what actually went wrong
• ✓Have basic familiarity with cloud infrastructure and how distributed systems talk to each other and fail
• ✓Stay calm and methodical when several things break at once and priorities keep shifting fast
• ✓Communicate clearly in written tickets and spoken updates, since support work runs on handovers between people

Nice-To-Haves

• ✓Prior exposure to a monitoring or observability tool such as Splunk, Datadog or Grafana
• ✓Basic scripting or automation experience beyond coursework, even from personal or academic projects
• ✓Familiarity with ITIL-style incident, problem and change management processes used in enterprise support teams
• ✓Some exposure to a major cloud platform like AWS, Azure or GCP, even at a beginner level
