Mainframe Developer

Responsibilities

• ✓Analyze user requirements and envision system features and functionality for mainframe applications
• ✓Design, build and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable mainframe code against set priorities
• ✓Identify bottlenecks and bugs, recommending solutions by weighing custom development tradeoffs
• ✓Contribute to team meetings and troubleshoot development and production issues across multiple environments
• ✓Understand architecture requirements and ensure effective design, development, validation and support activities
• ✓Create database schemas that accurately represent and support underlying business processes
• ✓Implement automated testing platforms and unit tests to catch issues before they reach production
• ✓Communicate effectively with remote teams to keep distributed development work aligned

Who You Are

• ✓Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, Science or Computer Applications
• ✓Have 0 to 4 years of experience in mainframe development or a closely related field
• ✓Show working knowledge of Mainframes, COBOL, PL/1, CICS, JCL and DB2
• ✓Have experience with IBM Rational tools such as IDz, RDz, RBD or RTC
• ✓Show in-depth knowledge of design issues and mainframe development best practices
• ✓Have a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles
• ✓Show good verbal and written communication skills for cross-team and client coordination
• ✓Be highly flexible to travel as required by project needs

Nice-To-Haves

• ✓Specific experience with VS COBOL II beyond general COBOL knowledge
• ✓Familiarity with various design and architectural patterns across software development processes
• ✓Experience with both external and embedded databases in a mainframe context
• ✓Exposure to Agile management tools and practices within a mainframe development environment
