SDE I Intern

Responsibilities

• ✓Work with experienced engineers across disciplines to shape a product idea from concept into something real
• ✓Design and build technology within a large distributed computing environment used by production systems
• ✓Build prediction or data pipelines that run at a scale most academic projects never approach
• ✓Contribute to storage, indexing or query systems that need to stay fast, reliable and cheap to run
• ✓Turn a broadly defined, ambiguous problem into a concrete technical design before writing any code
• ✓Deliver working software inside an agile team, adjusting to changing priorities across the internship
• ✓Take part in intern-specific events and networking activities alongside the core project work

Who You Are

• ✓Understand core computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms and data structures
• ✓Be comfortable writing code in at least one of C, C++, Python, Java or Perl
• ✓Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
• ✓Have a graduation year that matches this internship's intake window rather than one already completed
• ✓Be able to commit full-time for the entire internship duration with no conflicting coursework or jobs
• ✓Be ready to relocate for an in-person internship, since remote participation isn't part of this programme
• ✓Handle complexity analysis questions comfortably enough to reason about why one approach beats another

Nice-To-Haves

• ✓A previous technical internship at any company, even outside large-scale distributed systems work
• ✓Some exposure to multi-tiered distributed systems, algorithms or relational databases beyond coursework
• ✓Familiarity with optimization mathematics such as linear or nonlinear programming from academic projects
• ✓Comfort explaining a technical tradeoff clearly to someone who wasn't in the room when you made it
• ✓A track record of handling loosely defined problems without needing every requirement spelled out first
