Software Engineer, Android

Responsibilities

• ✓Design and build Android features that hold up reliably across a userbase in the tens of millions
• ✓Balance rapid iterative development with the security, stability and automation standards PhonePe holds engineering to
• ✓Build or extend internal frameworks and tooling rather than defaulting only to third-party libraries
• ✓Apply modern Android architecture patterns like MVVM and dependency injection consistently across features you own
• ✓Write unit and instrumentation tests so changes can ship quickly without breaking existing functionality
• ✓Take a feature from initial design and system architecture through to a shipped, production-ready state
• ✓Think through edge cases for individual users even while optimizing decisions for scale overall
• ✓Stay current with new Android capabilities and evaluate where they genuinely improve the existing app

Who You Are

• ✓Have over 1 to 2 years of full-time Android app development experience with strong fundamentals
• ✓Show a real passion for programming generally, not just Android development specifically
• ✓Demonstrate strong problem-solving ability that goes beyond following a set pattern from documentation
• ✓Have solid system design and architecture skills, specifically applied to Android app development
• ✓Be genuinely curious about exploring new technical paradigms rather than sticking to one familiar approach
• ✓Be comfortable working with Kotlin, MVVM, Dagger 2, LiveData, Room and WorkManager in production code
• ✓Care about continuous improvement in your own code quality, not just meeting a feature deadline

Nice-To-Haves

• ✓Practical experience writing unit and instrumentation tests across a full Android app development cycle
• ✓Prior experience building or maintaining an SDK used by other teams or external developers
• ✓Exposure to CI/CD pipelines set up specifically for mobile app release cycles
• ✓Some background working on fintech or payments-related consumer apps at meaningful scale
